Location: | Left testis | ||||||||||||||||||||||
Gross Description: | The specimen is composed of a raindrop shaped fragment of tissue covered with a tense capsule. It measures 23.5 x 7.8 x 7.4 cm in greatest dimension. The capsule is smooth, with only focal changes of surgical interruption near the base. It extends into a spermatic cord which is grossly free of tumor. Upon opening the specimen, the enlarged capsule is distended by necrotic-appearing, yellow-tan tumor with areas of hemorrhagic discoloration. Nodules of tumor extend to the undersurface of the capsule, with no gross evidence of perforation. |

Pathologic Diagnosis: | Non-seminomatous germ cell tumor of mixed tumor type comprised of immature teratoma and embryonal carcinoma with yolk sac elements. Proximal margins of resection are free of tumor involvement. No evidence of tumor perforation through the testicular capsule. Prominent hemorrhage and tumor necrosis are identified focally. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
