PATHOLOGY DATA

  
Location:

Right upper lobe.

  
   
Gross findings:

Tumor size 3.5 x 3.5 x 3 cm.

Right lung pleural surfaces are pink-tan, with mild anthracosis. A firm mass can be palpated between the middle and lower lobes. The tumor is located in the middle lobe. The tumor does not appear to involve the pleural surface. The tumor mass measures  3.5 x 3.5 x 3 cm in greatest dimension. Some firm areas are noted on the pleural surface of the parenchyma. These areas are darkly pigmented and measure up to 7 mm in greatest diameter. No additional tumor masses are noted.

Right hilar lymph node, excision: Metastatic adenocarcinoma.

Right lung: Pneumonectomy: Moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma with extension to pleural surface.
Widespread metastatic carcinoma involving additional lobes of lung and five additional hilar lymph nodes.
Bronchial margin free of neoplasm.
