Microscopic appearance: Erythropoiesis hypoplastic and normoblastic. Myelopoiesis also hypoplastic showing variable stages of maturation and differentiation. Cellularity 80%. Marrow is diffusely infiltrated with mononuclear cells which are medium to large sized with high N:C ratio. Scanty cytoplasm with fine granules, open nuclear chromatin with 2-3 nucleoli. Lymphocytes and plasma cells are adequately distributed. No granuloma lymphoid aggregate or excessive fibrosis seen. Iron stain Grade I. Reticulin Grade I
